What do to in Manila
The beautiful country of the Philippines is spread across 7000 islands, but undoubtedly the most exciting destination in the country is the capital city, Manila. Manilan culture is a heady mix of traditional Filipino culture and the Spanish influence from the 300 years of colonial power they had. Manilan – and Filipino cuisine, is the result of a unique blend of Spanish, Chinese and Southeast Asian cooking that boasts dishes such as pork noodles, salted fish and paella. The Philippines is a largely catholic country and major festivals therefore include Easter, Christmas and a huge number of Saints days.
The metropolitan area of Manila, Makati, is vast but the central part of the city is where you’ll find all the best things to do in Manila. The city is famous for being the home of the world’s oldest Chinatown in Binondo, one of the most exciting parts of the city. Probably one of the most popular places to visit in Manila is Intramuros, a walled city that dates from early Spanish colonial times and is home to a number of key landmarks including Fort Santiago and the Baroque San Augustine church.
South of the walled city is the buzzing area of Ermita, one of the best Manila tourist spots, ideal for a night out and also home to a number of important museums including the National Museum of the Philippines and the Museum of Filipino Political History. Just south of Ermite is the Malate area where many of the best hotels are found and is the best choice of where to stay in Manila. One of the most popular Manila attractions are its incredible sunsets which can be viewed along the Baywalk. This is a popular place to end the day by eating at one of the best restaurants in Manila which are found here.
